When making new pages that will be viewed in the main section of a frames page, remember to design it to fit without requiring the visitor to scroll left and right to see it all. Preview it before uploading it onto the server, and consider how small some people's monitors might be.

If you use a side frame for a list of contents, don't also put these links in the main section. It's confusing to see the same links on the same screen twice.

Consider the background colors and/or images you'll be using side by side in each frame. They should not clash with each other. If you use background images in the sidebar, keep the main section's background plain, or at least give it a subdued, quiet background image. And do likewise on every new page you create that will appear in the main section.

Do you want to have dividers between each frame or is it better to make the whole screen look like one frame even though it works as separate frames? It depends on what you're trying to accomplish. You can even choose whether or not you want the scroll bar to appear in each frame. The best guideline is to keep the look of the screen as simple and organized as possible.
